Supporting Refugees and Immigrants

Our Highest Ambition is to Support Refugees

Our goal is to foster well-being and self-sufficiency for resettled refugees and immigrants from across the Middle East and beyond.

The Middle Eastern Immigrant and Refugee Alliance (MIRA) fosters the well-being and self-sufficiency of Middle Eastern refugees, immigrants, and asylees in Chicago. MIRA serves as a first point of contact for a diverse client population from around the world, offering culturally competent services for those from the Middle East and Islamic cultures. The immigrants and refugees we serve arrive in the United States facing numerous barriers to full integration into society.

Today is "National Voter Registration Day."
Watch MIRA's Director of Development, Ekram Hanna, share her story on why citizenship and voting are important to her:
"I was interviewed by the National partnership of New Americans to share a little bit about my experience of being able to vote as American citizen.
As a former refugee from Iraq, I didn’t have a voice to ask for my rights or a good relationship with the government in my country, it was based on fear. Being an American citizen, I have the right to choose the right people who represent me." Ekram Hanna
